I published the first public iteration of the first article for The Remnant's Way, Ab Initio, on October 27, 2024. It had gone through many drafts to get it to a place I believed it adds value on the public marketplace of ideas. Ab Initio is the entry point to all that follows and will be revised as I clarify my thoughts and refine the direction for The Remnant's Way.

In many ways, this project feels rushed, even though I've been thinking about it for many years. The accelerant for this rush has been what I perceived as a dramatic increase in an especially virulent form of hypocrisy and cognitive dissonance spreading in the world today. That it exists isn't surprising. That it's being adopted or accepted as way of life by many people is disturbing. That it's serving as the basic operating system for many of our cultural and governmental institutions is frightening. The people who are demanding solutions expect them to be found by someone else and the someone else they expect to find the solutions have every incentive to insure nothing ever gets solved.

So where is there hope? Where can I direct my energy and potentially influence a future where people of all stripes and spots cooperate rather than prioritize, build rather than destroy, listen rather than shout?

The Remnant's Way is my answer to those questions.

"We come into this world with sealed orders," a quote attributed to Søren Kierkegaard, and learning what those "orders" are is an unending learning process. As such, all of learning, indeed all of life is an unending iterative process of error correction. We make guesses, some informed and most not-so-informed, learn when we are wrong, and make adjustments. By definition this means we're going to be wrong most of the time and, if we're to grow and mature, update our priors based on the lessons learned. The harder we press on learning the more mistakes we're going to make. When we integrate the lesson we furthering our maturation and deepen our wisdom.

I'm not free of this iterative wheel of life and the only exceptional thing I can claim is how hard I work to turn the wheel. To this end I deliberately plan to update, unpublish, or delete altogether articles in order to meet my objectives. If you've found something I've said or written in the past that appears to contradict what's written here or elsewhere then you've captured a glimpse into this process.

I've always tried to write about what I know and I'll continue to do that here. As a rule, I've avoided talking or writing about myself or my personal experiences. The bigger picture was the more important story that needed telling. It's only been in the last 6-7 years that I've worked to open up and write about anything personal. The Remnant's Way, however, has different demands. If my perspective is to be of value to anybody then I'll need to occasionally write about who I am so the origin of my words can be evaluated within a wider context. I make no apologies for who I am or my place in the world.

Why subscribe?

I hope you will return regularly to The Remnant's Way as I often update posts, particularly Ab Initio, and do not always publish to email posts that are meant to support or serve as reference to existing or future posts.

At present I have no plans to publish paid subscriber only articles, but please consider becoming a paid subscriber. Doing so supports my writing efforts and grants me the most precious of all resources - dedicated time for writing. And for that, I am deeply grateful.
